Day 9: The Last Supper

Josh begins to wrap things up at the clinic and joins the infamous "Mama Eli" for dinner:

Also Koby told me today after spending the entire week with me that his real name is Josh. How do you fucking wait that long to tell me that!?

The perfect dinner for me: Baked chicken, plain rice, vegetable soup with only peas and carrots. No sugar, no nightshades. BOOM. THANK YOU MAMA ELI!

Mama Eli is the town grandmother. She is known for hosting visitors, especially Americans in Elmina and/or Cape Coast. She is said to know how to cook for Americans so that their stomachs don't get upset. FACTS. Also, the hug which she said I must give her, was easily a top 10 hug in my life. Mount Rushmore of hugs: Grandmother, your crush, finding one of your boys at the festival after losing them for hours, final time on the field/court from your coach.

Lunch right on the water in Elmina. The sea was very rough today.

My first time trying man on the street. Videos will be released at a later date. I felt really good doing them, I think all the people I interviewed were much more nervous. The time for me to be nervous was 10 days ago.

Iron orders me plantains.....yet again.....I LOVE them.....yet again.

Josh working with in-home client, Lois. Lois is a 14-year-old girl who engages in severe self-injurious behavior such as hand biting, head hitting, and hitting her head on surfaces. We are working with her mother to teach her the contingency that she can access things such as food and toys through something less effortful than engaging in those severe behaviors.
